Brixton High Street is always an interesting place to walk in. It’s busy, colourful, loads of languages and even the English comes dressed in so many different accents. We quite often go through Brixton because there are some good bus routes for us. I was changing buses at Brixton and I heard in the distance this steel drum band. Two men and a lady. She was bass player and drummer in one. She played chords with her right hand and played the drum with her right. Then there was a man playing melody and another one holding the rhythm together with the shaker. Again behind the seeming facade of dehumanised traffic and crowds there were these sounds enjoying and celebrating life.
